CSI. O. U.

A week ago, Alison mentioned a TV script writing contest. She sent a couple links, there’s actually two contests that have deadlines over the next month or so. The Scriptapalooza site has a deadline of April 30th and the Austin Film Festival has a deadline of May 15th.

So I spent some time trying to figure out what I’d like to write. They both want current shows, so Pushing Daisies was out of the question (sniff). I’m a big fan of House, but I couldn’t write something with that level of medical detail (quick, name three diseases that would explain these symptoms: shortness of breath, blue fingernails, and pulmonary edema).

I figured CSI would be a fun show – I used to watch the original series and I thought I had a good grasp on the overall feel of the show from watching the first couple years. I quickly outlined something that involved Grissom and Sara at one scene while Nick and Warrick went to another.

Boy was I off, six seasons later and the show is completely different. People that keep on top of these things probably know that Grissom was replaced with Morpheus, but I was shocked. Not only is Grissom gone, but so is Sara. And Warrick. Meh, there’s goes my story.

There’s always been an emotional subplot on the show, something that fleshed out the characters and made them a little more “real”, but the more recent shows seem to have really piled that on. It’s also more graphic than it used to be, I really have to increase the maggot quotient if I’m going to make a competitive script.

Okay, I’ll give you some details later. I’m busy with a script.
