Q: Why is House like Alias?

Correct! But another similarity that came up was the way the last season of House ended and the way Alias jumped the shark (you’ve heard me rant about Season 2 Episode 13 of Alias).

Not that House has jumped the shark, I’m just saying that they have a chance of a JJ Abrams-sized reboot of the series. In fact it’s the opposite of jumping the shark – I can’t wait for the new season to see which direction they take the show.

Since House has checked into a psychiatric hospital, there’s a great opportunity to have him perform his diagnostic magic on other patients. Keep him in the hospital for a couple episodes and let him cure people that were thought to be mentally unbalanced, but have random medical conditions.

Discharging House and putting him in a rough situation (he has to live with Cuddy, for example) would also be entertaining. Have him struggle with a lack of freedom in his personal life while keeping off the drugs that help him get through the day.

Better yet, bring House back to work and have him report to Foreman. House is better, but not well enough to make decisions without “adult supervision”.

They could have House contemplate suicide and tie it into the unresolved Kutner storyline.

You get the point. I’m sure the people that complain about the formulaic aspect of House will be surprised.
